Takoma Park Cooperative Nursery School, Inc. is a parent-participatory model school. We believe that children thrive in a supportive and safe environment created by active parents and informed teachers. Our school year begins in September and ends in early June, following the Montgomery County Public School holiday calendar. Parent participation in the classroom is a requirement as are attendance at monthly membership meetings, training sessions, and fulfillment of administrative tasks. These requirements ensure the continued success of the School, support a strong educational program, and result in cost savings for member families.

Admissions 2010: Important Dates

Information Sessions
Thursday, December 10th – 7:30 PM
Saturday, January 9th – 1:00 PM
Thursday, January 21st – 7:30 PM

Classroom Observations
Weeks of December 14th; January 11th, 18th, and 25th and February 1st (if necessary)

Application Deadline
Friday, February 5th

In making admissions decisions, we strive to maintain a high level of commitment to the School’s parent-participatory model and to create class rosters that are balanced in terms of age and gender and that reflect our diverse community.

Parents interested in The Cooperative School are encouraged to attend an Admissions Information Session and a Classroom Observation in December or January. The completed application form, a family photograph, and a one-time, non-refundable application fee of $50 ($45 each when applying for two children) must be received by 5:00 PM on February 5th, 2010. Family photographs help us remember who you are and the conversations we have had with you.

All applicants will be notified by late February. If your child is admitted to the school, a non-refundable deposit (applied toward future tuition) will be required. Remaining  applications are kept on file in the event of future openings.
